K-Lookbook: Gong Yoo (Goblin)

From being a prince-like cafe owner to a selfless father, Gong Yoo has never failed to amaze fangirls and fanboys alike. He is excellent on embodying his fictional character that you will never compare his roles from previous projects. That is why the Ahjummamshies squad unanimously loves him.

But one thing is noticeable with Gong Yoo’s portrayal of Kim Shin: he is a one hot and au courant hundred-years-old ahjeossi. Let’s breakdown Gong Yoo’s wardrobe in The Lonely Shining Goblin. Kaja!

Gong Yoo has a height and face of a model so, it was no surprise that he and his stylist took advantage of it. He wore sleek suits in the drama, emphasizing his long legs and to-die-for physique.

Maknae’s tip: If you’re not as blessed as our long-legged general, you should be mindful of size and fit of your suit. Remember your peg is chic Goblin not hip-hop Goblin.

Rules have exceptions and in fashion, oversize coats are rule breakers. Gong Yoo wore large coats over a variation of day-to-day outfits. But did you know those outer wears our gold-making-Goblin wore are from luxury brands like Giorgio Armani, Lanvin, and Burberry?

Who says good ol’cardigans are just for 할아버지 (harabeoji/grandfathers)? Kim Shin may have lived for hundreds of years already but his style is definitely not outdated. He plays around with all types of cardigans throughout the series from the classic cashmere button-up to V-neck cardigans.

Kim Shin’s whole clothing stacks can be described as classic yet trendy. He has all the men’s fashion staples but he mix and match it well one would never say his outfits are just basic. And surely, this good-looking ahjeossi truly knows how to wear turtleneck sweaters.

Maknae’s tip: this item of clothing is tricky to wear since if you pick the wrong type you’ll end up looking like a gimbap. So, make sure to start with plain colored turtle necks and again, choose the right fit!

This Goblin can vary his looks from laid-back to dapper but it still surprised me how he looks stunning on his wedding scene with Ji Eun-tak (Kim Go-eun). His bow tie tux strangely complements his bride’s boho-looking dress, which I think was the perfect choice if your wedding is held in a beautiful field of buckwheat flowers.

Kim Shin was an unbeatable general of the Goryeo Dynasty before he became an immortal. Did you know that Goryeo Dynasty is a great military might during that era? We’ll learn more about this Korean kingdom on K-Culture’s next lesson.

  1. His wardrobe in Goblin was to die for. Most of his coats were really gorgeous. I think he used to be a model before becoming an actor, so he looks like he’s modelling those clothes most of the time 😃

My breath caught in my throat during that wedding scene.
