K-Drama Reaction: The Best Hit | Finale

The Time Traveling Phenomena

I can’t help but think that my theory a few episodes ago could be a canon and not a far-fetch idea. It turns out that Yoo Hyun-jae (Yoon Si-yoon) could time travel at exactly 1:20 AM during a twin typhoon. He figured it out and use it to his advantage. He wanted to save Hyun-jae in 1994 but the latter chose not to and stay on the time where he belongs. Yes, you’ve read it right. There is another Hyun-jae in the series. I can’t erase the triumphant smile on my face as I watched it because I thought of this before. The series didn’t really elaborate but the only logical reason of such phenomena is that Hyun-jae actually traveled to an alternate universe rather than the timeline he was currently in. Therefore, he’s correct on saying he belongs in the present time as there was no other Hyun-jae living in that universe. I wasn’t actually expecting such ending but it was a good escape route to give everyone a happy ending.

The New Popular Duo

Lee Ji-hoon (Kim Min-jae) and MC Drill have finally debuted on public TV. They have been gaining popularity and I was content to see Ji-hoon happy despite not getting the girl he likes. I was wishing though that he and Do Hye-ri (Bona) have more interaction in the ending because I quite enjoyed watching their relationship grew closer. Anyway, it was also nice to see Drill overcoming his stage fright and achieve his dreams.

I like the way this plotline ended. It was quiet realistic in some sense. I’m assuming Park Young-jae (Hong Kyung-min) is still doing well with his business even after MJ (Cha Eun-woo) left. He also deserves a closure from the past as his grudges were considered valid.

Happy Ending

I’m a happy fan as every character I loved for so many weeks finally got the happy endings they deserved.

Lee Gwang-jae (Cha Tae-hyun) has proposed to Hong Bo-hee (Yoon Son-ha) at last. It was not a perfect proposal but still sweet nonetheless. I’m glad to see Bo-hee completely over Hyun-jae and their past. She was one of the characters who didn’t have enough spotlight but her character progress has been great.

Lee Soon-tae (Lee Deok-hwa) is continuing his battle with dementia while Mal Sook was adopted by Gwang-jae and Bo-hee. It was heartwarming to see that the confusing family picture in the first episode became a real family in the end. I’m kind of sad though Soon-tae wasn’t in the final episode though.

Choi Woo-seung (Lee Se-young) spend some time lonely and sad while Hyun-jae traveled back in time. But all her pain and heartbreaks were repaid in the end by that swoon-worthy knee-buckling kiss.

Maknae’s Series Verdict

image

I started this series with a smile on my face and ended up in tears. Not because it ended badly but I got too attached it was hard for me to let it go. I have to give the credit to Yoon Si-yoon. I can’t imagine any other actors playing his role. I always admire actors who can detach their personality to their characters and Si-yoon did just that. Every time I watched him onscreen, I can’t see any trace of Yoon Si-yoon, the actor. All I can see is Hyun-jae, the 90s idol. What is also good about the cast is that they don’t rely on the main character alone. All of them did well and deserve an applause.

From the storytelling to its technical aspects, The Best Hit really hit it right. This is the kind of series that doesn’t need elaborate conflicts nor super evil antagonist. Its simplicity is its advantage.

As much as I want this series to go on for a long time, it is time to say goodbye to the series that made my Friday-Saturday nights complete. It was a good run for this slice-of-life a drama. Farewell, The Best Hit!
