K-Drama Reaction: Hospital Ship | Episodes 23-24

It may not be perfect but a happy ending is still a happy ending.

Familial Ties

All of our main characters – Kwak Hyun (Kwak Hyun), Song Eun-jae (Ha Jio-won), and Kim Jae-geol (Lee Seo-won, had tried to avoid their own individual problems. Earlier in the series, Hyun has learned to share the emotional difficulty of caring for his father to people he knew would understand him. It eased the burden he felt. The time has come for Eun-jae and Jae-geol to do the same.

Jae-geol finally visited his brother’s grave. It was also time for him and his father to reconcile. They have grieved enough. I have grown to love Jae-geol’s family dynamics. It’s not picture-perfect family but they have come to terms with their grudges and learned it’s time for them to move forward together.

Eun-jae, who always act on her own, was surprised to see how many people cared about her. From Nurse Pyo and the Hospital Ship team to her former colleagues in Seoul, they all did their best to show support in one of the most difficult times for Eun-jae. And she, on her behalf, is learning to accept help from others. She realizes how to show her emotions and shares her woes. This is one of the things I like about this series. There is an obvious growth to Eun-jae. Her journey is something the viewers can relate and learn from.

A New Beginning

The operation of Eun-jae’s father went well and she had Kim Do-Hoon (Jeon No-min) to thank for that. Even this seemingly self-righteous character had his redemption in these episodes. He told Eun-jae to go back to Seoul but (surprise surprise!) she told him she would rather stay at the Hospital Ship. This felt like a new start for her. And since her career and family problems have been addressed, I’m expecting the next episodes to deal with how she’ll handle matters of the heart, which is something I’m sure she is not an expert at.

Maknae’s Episode Verdict

The characters we grew to love showed in these episodes how their experiences in the Hospital Ship taught them to be brave and face things they were afraid of. I can’t express how much this series is making me happy every week. It felt like I’m watching my friends grow-up and take life problems like a pro. And as I’ve said earlier, the familial aspect of the series has been dealt with already. The remaining episodes will probably be focused on the romantic relationships of the characters. I think I have to brace myself with a different kind of heartache.
