K-Drama Reaction: Hospital Ship | Episodes 31-32

This is how people with Type A personality dates.

The Storm’s Wreckage

Song Eun-jae (Ha Ji-won) goes back to the Hospital Ship while Kwak Hyun (Kang Min-hyuk) recovers from his surgery. Without telling anyone, Eun-jae tried her best to fix the wreckage from the attack. She also made sure to schedule medicine deliveries for Hyun’s patients. All of it she did on her own. We all know Eun-jae likes to do things alone but seeing her do exhausting tasks for the sake of others reminded me how she changed over time. That scene where she walked around the damaged ship was poignant. The strong insensitive surgeon has become a caring person. And I hate that her journey in the ship will soon come to an end due to some politicking on the ground.

Fighting a Good Guy

In the last episode, Kim Jae-geol (Lee Seo-won) has seen how Eun-jae and Hyun suit each other. Jae-geol decided to let go his the first women she loved and he can’t even hate Hyun for taking her away. I agree with him that Hyun is such a good guy no one could hate. I really like Jae-geol’s monologue after he and Hyun tired themselves out in basketball. Jae-geol is hurting but at the same time relieved that he will let go his first love and let her be happy with a good person. His smile really showed he knew it was the right decision.

Speaking of rational decision, Choi Young-eun (Wang Ji-won) decided to go to New York and finally let go of her ex-lover. I’m not fond of Hyun’s mother Lee Soo-kyung (Nam Ki-ae) but her talk with Young-eun made me realized she has gone through a lot in life. Her advice to Young-eun obviously came from her own experiences. My only complaint is that Young-eun is getting away from her vicious lie (urgh!).

The Ship’s Secret Couple

I’m glad this series is letting Hyun and Eun-jae have some sweet moments before they drop another conflict. Eun-jae was so adorable planning their first date carefully. Since the last episode, I can’t look at Hyun the same way. He may seem to follow Eun-jae around and let her do what she likes but his alpha instincts are always there. He really knows how to handle a strong woman without making her feel she’s weak at all. Hyun is always there for Eun-jae, ready to stir her in the right direction whenever she feels lost.

Maknae’s Episode Verdict

I didn’t realize this series lacked romantic scenes until I’ve watched this episode. I was too busy watching the whole Ship crew wade their way out of problematic situations to notice the lack of overly romantic scenes (aka my guilty pleasure). Aside from the drunk kiss and late-night hugs, there weren’t any giddy-worthy scenes. And the series knew how to fill this need. There’s no turning back for the Hyun x Eun-jae ship.

  1. I’m starting to think you read my mind. Before this chapters I used to think that Hyun was a very passive and maybe a little weak character but then I realized that he just didn’t wanted to push Eun Jae.
