K-Drama Reaction: While You Were Sleeping | Episodes 27-28

Past ghosts can haunt you back.

The Reinvestigation of Myung Yu-sik’s Case

After the arson case to cover-up evidence, Division 3 prosecutors started reinvestigating the serial murder case that led to Myung Yi-suk’s arrest and eventual suicide. Prosecutor Jung Jae-chan (Lee Jong-suk) was partnered with Prosecutor Lee to reopen the case after finding out there were eight more patients died after Yi-suk was arrested. Prosecutor Son and Prosecutor Shin were tasked to do the investigation of the arson case. Their efforts led to the discovery that the suspect was actually a woman. She wasn’t a included in the initial investigation as she was also a patient in the same ward as the victims. She has some sick motive to kill and even Lee Yoo-beom (Lee Sang-yeob) can’t stomach it. But since he is in trouble, he had to cooperate with her.

Conflict of Interest

In the middle of this chaos is inspector Choi Dam-dong (Kim Won-hae). If only he wasn’t the inspector involved in the Myung Yu-sik’s case then it won’t be difficult to Jae-chan to see the lapses and manipulation done in the case. Jae-chan was too attached to Mr Choi it would break him if evidence led to the obvious falsification. If only Mr Choi explained he also dreamed about the future like Jae-chan and Hong-joo then the context of his presence during the fire would be clearer. Jae-chan would have more reason to trust him. But with the way things are going, I’m guessing we’ll have to witness Jae-chan suffering from the thought that someone he thought knew so well could break his trust.

Higher Stakes

Another thing that would make things more complex is Nam Hong-joo’s (Bae Suzy) involvement in the case. Hong-joo has a strong beleif Yoo-beom is behind the manipulation because she covered the same case last year. Back when they were dating (I actually forgot this fact already. Urgh, your worst enemy could be your ex). I’m worried that Jae-chan could be blinded by his emotions while the case is ongoing after Hong-joo’s life was put in danger. He might blame it to Mr Choi and Yoo-beom without and strong evidence. But I’m trusting he will be guided by people around him like Han Woo-tak (Jung Hae-in).

Maknae’s Episode Verdict

Thrilling is not enough to describe this episode. The storytelling was really excellent. The way things unfold takes the already good plot to a higher notch. It makes revelations more shocking. They were also good at concealing obvious hints even to those veteran K-drama viewers. If this isn’t enough reasons for you to be excited for the next episode, then I don’t know what will.

Afterthoughts of a Dongsaeng

– The music scoring for this series is really awesome.

– I hope Mr Choi has some good plans to bring down lawyer Yoo-beom!

– Speaking of, I hate this evil lawyer but I have to commend Lee Sang-yeob for being able to deliver really well!

– For some eerie and unexplained reasons, I really find this soulless serial killer so gorgeous.
