K-Drama Reaction: While You Were Sleeping | Episodes 29-30

No one can escape laws of karma.

The Attempted Murder of Nam Hong-joo

Jung Jae-chan (Lee Jong-suk) arrived just in time to save Nam Hong-joo (Bae Suzy) from being killed by the IV serial killer. Good thing, he saw it happening in his dreams and alerted Han Woo-tak (Jung Hae-in) about the incident. The police officer then found Lee Yoo-beom (Lee Sang-yeob) carrying the unconscious Hong-joo and pretending he too was a victim. He killed the serial killer and make it looked like it was self-defense. I actually couldn’t believe this infamous lawyer would go full dark at the end of this series. There were foreshadowing but Yoo-beom was really consumed by the evil of wanting more power and greed. At least the last episodes will focus on the main plot’s conflict which I thought was being disregarded for some episodes already.

The Argument

Jae-chan needs to prove Yoo-beom has an intention to kill the real IV serial killer. To do so, he needs to prove Yoo-beom falsified evidence when he was still a prosecutor. He has to present a solid argument without falling to the traps set-up by Yoo-beom and put the blame to Inspector Choi Dam-dong (Kim Won-hae). This added conflict just makes the stakes higher. Jae-chan needs to be careful with his moves or else a person close to him will be implicated.

The Witnesses

The situation might be too complicated to handle but Jae-chan is not alone in handling it. Aside from the Division 3 prosecutors, Hong-joo and Woo-tak are determined on help him. This trio needs to work together to bring down this greedy lawyer.

Maknae’s Episode Verdict

Everything was good in this drama but there is this tiny nagging feeling that something is actually missing. Maybe it was the lack urgency I felt while what suppose to be the rising action in this story. There should be this usual impatience to know what would happen. But for some unusual reason, I’m not as excited as I should be. Or maybe this drama has already taken me high during its earlier episodes that this lead-up to the resolution seems to plain for me.

Afterthoughts of a Dongsaeng

– So, Is Prosecutor Lee Ji-kwang dating Prosecutor Son Woo-joo now? ㅋㅋ
