K-Drama Reaction: I’m Not a Robot | Episodes 3-4

The political side of the drama is brewing early as Min-kyu (Yoo Seung-ho) discovers that his late Chairman father apparently created the Sta. Maria team under the guise of being a shipbuilding research group. Nobody knew that they were tasked to create futuristic human-like robots. Now that the RnD team is set to being sold out in a very suspicious timing, Min-kyu is digging up information about other people with knowledge on the Aji-3 project, most especially CEO Hwang Yoo-cheol (Kang Ki-young) and his chairman father Hwang Do-won (Son Byun-ho).

Aji-3 vs Ji-a

In case you did not notice yet, our heroine Ji-a (Chae Soo-bin) and android robot Aji-3 (also Chae Soo-bin) share an interesting name play. This ex-boyfriend Baek-gyun (Uhm Ki-joon) is really amusing. I know it’s a bit no nonsense why we had to compare them but we have to understand that Min-kyu is on a different category than all of us. Aji-3 has very high IQ but emotionless, and Ji-a may be a slow learner but she has a heart. Let’s not forget that for now, Min-kyu may end up his heart getting broken by a robot.

Operation mode vs Friend mode

Speaking of getting heart broken, Min-kyu is a very fragile hero. He carries a heavy backstory with him and my guess is that his human allergy stems from the past accident that killed both his parents. I also liked the explanation why Min-kyu is not yet suspecting Aji-3 to be a faux-robot. He saw the real Aji-3 already, and Ji-a touched his hand without any problem. Though things may still be vague, I’m ready to let it go for now as long as we get more lovely and hilarious scenes later on.

GRUMPY ALLEY

On a scale of 1 to Ji-a’s brother, how harsh can you get?

Having a difficult time dealing with your break-up? Take notes from Baek-gyun on getting over your ex-girlfriend (or not!) 101.

  • Make a robot using your ex’s face.

  • Teach her to say “I love you” every time you call her.

  • Ban words associated with your ex as potential passwords.

Now that we know why Ji-a and Byun-gyun broke up, I completely understand Ji-a’s reaction when her ex called her out of the blue. Though I admit I suspected Byun-gyun to be scheming at first, but now I think of him as that weird ex-boyfie with high IQ but no EQ.
