K-Drama Reaction: Radio Romance | Episode 2

I think, the dramagods like me very much because when I wished for a light romance to cover next here in K-Drama Reactions, that’s exactly what I’ve got!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Song Geu-rim (Kim So-hyun) is the type of girl who would do anything for her dream. I so admire her overflowing determination to get top star Ji Soo-ho (Yoon Doo-joon) as DJ for her next radio show. It’s no easy task, huh. She threw herself countless times into a freezing lake, followed Soo-ho around like a dog, endured his sharp tongue, and even attempted to make soju bombs for him. Hey, is it just me who feels like I’m watching a baby drinking alcohol every time Kim So-hyun sips soju or beer? It’s kind of unbelievable to realize that the child star I’ve been watching since The Moon Embracing the Sun is now a lady! I remember her portraying the young antagonist there, but look at her now… she even got herself so wasted in this episode that she didn’t remember how on Earth she ended up in Soo-ho’s room! Soo-ho’s (step)mom, JH Entertainment CEO Nam Joo-ha (Oh Hyun-kyung), even thought that she “played” with her son all night in exchange for his nod to her casting offer. The crazier thing is that Soo-ho seemed to make it really look like that! Bad. If I were Geu-rim, I’d also fume with anger and walk out. Yes, I’m desperate to cast you, but it’s not right to use me in your issue with your mom and make it look like I’m an easy girl. Na-ah.

I thought this incident would make the casting more impossible, but Geu-rim’s sincerity, the chance of being able to be his true self, and most of all, Soo-ho’s obvious feelings for our heroine won him over. The next thing we knew, he’s standing right in front of Geu-rim telling her he’d do radio much to everyone’s surprise! Just a thought. Would Soo-ho even consider the offer if it’s not Geu-rim who approached him? I mean, it’s very evident that Soo-ho likes or maybe even loves Geu-rim so I believe this played a major part in his decision. This whole unrequited attraction/love theory of mine became even stronger when Soo-ho dropped off Geu-rim at her house. Honestly, if he’s not this drama’s hero I’d find it creepy, but I know there’s a story behind it so I’ll just chill and go on a wait-and-see mode here for the meantime.

WHAT’S BEHIND THOSE MASKS

So, the rumors about the fakeness surrounding Soo-ho’s family are all true! His dad, veteran actor Ji Yoon-seok (Kim Byung-se), isn’t really the faithful and loving husband that he portrays he is but someone who loves playing around with young actresses. Meanwhile, Soo-ho’s mom, JH Entertainment CEO Nam Joo-ha, is so far from being a role model to women because she’s a very materialistic and manipulative person in reality. The way she dictates on Soo-ho makes me mad. I’m not even surprised with the revelation that she’s not his real mother because who’d do such things to their children? Only two episodes in, but she’s getting into my nerves already!

But the most disturbing for me is Soo-ho himself. He always smiles even though the situation requires him to react differently. It’s as if he’s always trying to hide his true emotions, making him aloof and cold. He also has developed a very bad insomnia. And all of this makes me want to believe his doctor/friend Jason’s (Kwak Dong-yeon) diagnosis that he’s depressed.

THE GOOFY AND THE BITCHY

Speaking of Jason, we were introduced to his goofy character in this episode. He is Soo-ho’s high school friend and also personal doctor who acts very playful around him, but I could sense that he truly cares for him. We also had a glimpse of this bitchy actress Jin Tae-ri (Yura), who I think will be another major antagonist of this drama aside from Soo-ho’s mother. Let’s see what exactly be the roles that they would play in Soo-ho and Geu-rim’s lives in the next episodes.

Ooops, before I go. I think Radio Romance is doing a good job as a light rom-com drama. The acting is good, as well as the chemistry between Yoon Doo-joon and Kim So-hyun. They’re also both very appealing to the eyes (especially Doo-joon hee-hee). My only problem is that everything I’ve watched from the pilot has been done countless times before, so I’m hoping to see something new next week!
