K-Drama Reaction: Hwayugi | Episode 11

The sound of death is surrounding the Great Sage.

The Death of Chairman Woo-hwi

Ma-wang (Cha Seung-won) was supposed to end the life of Lucifer Entertainment CEO Woo-hwi after he was stabbed by a human possessed by an evil spirit. But complications of fake heirs and hidden lovers “forced” him to continue the fake life he created. The incident was a clever way of explaining how these immortals roam the human realm for a long time. It was also some kind of a prologue of the subsequent events which shook their seemingly happy world.

Zombie Girl’s Farewell

Jin Bu-ja (Lee Se-young) decided it was time to let go of her pursuit of her real identity. Almost killing Jin Sun-mi made her realized she didn’t want to turn into an evil spirit. She wanted to leave while she’s still beautiful (*sobs*). This adorable zombie may be rotting inside but her smile really captured me as a viewer. Seeing her bid farewell to everyone really broke my heart. You couldn’t blame me for cheering Son Oh-gong (Lee Seung-gi) to tear apart those evil men who harmed her.

To Kill or Be Killed

The Great Sage found out that he and Sam Jang have a deadly fate. I’m pretty sure he was starting to dangerously fall in love for Sun-mi but his conversation with Ma-wang baffled me a bit. The Bull Demon remarked that love wouldn’t be enough to make the Monkey King’s stone heart soften. Unbeknownst to Ma-wang, what he called a mere thing has truly taken over Oh-gong. What worries me now is this complication’s impact on their relationship. They haven’t really started and yet they are already being tested (what do I expect its dramaverse!).

Maknae’s Episode Verdict

I’m getting the idea that a happily-ever-after for everyone is nothing more than a wishful thinking. I was banking on the side stories to be a humorous relief when things get tough for the main plotline but I guess dramagenies enjoy watching Hwayugi fans suffer seeing their adored characters get hurt. I think this is only the start of torture blows of plot twists and fatal complications for these outré supernatural beings we have all fell in love with.

Dongsaeng’s Afterthoughts

– He is actually good looking… in that creepy kind of way.

– Me during Bu-ja’s farewell scenes
