The level of cuteness of this K-drama is off the charts! I don’t know if it’s just my shameless bias for Jung Hae-in or Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food just screams adorable in every way.
This drama gave me high expectations because it’s the comeback drama of both 50th Baeksang Arts Awards’ Best Director Ahn Pan-seok (Secret Love Affair) and A-list movie actress Son Ye-jin. I know it’s just so hard to find subs for this drama, and the licensing rights to this one now solely belongs to Netflix. Also, let’s just all agree to call the drama Pretty Noona, instead of Something in the Rain for this reaction series.
Our heroine Yoon Jin-a (Son Ye-jin) works as an assistant manager at Coffee Bay. She usually does field work every day, inspecting franchise stores and attending important events for the company. She is in-charge of the operational aspect of the Coffee Bay franchise. We open our pilot with Jin-a’s meet-up with her ex-boyfriend Lee Gyu-min (Oh Ryong) whom by the smell of him is a certified d-bag. Jin-a asked him the reason why they broke up and he compared her to a Konjac jelly! The nerve even borrowed cash from Jin-a to pay for his parking fee! What a shameless jerk.
Grumpy tidbit: For those who don’t know Konjac jellies, they are wobbly, vegan gelatin also known as devil’s tongue jellies. I am not really familiar with the connotation behind being compared to a Konjac, but I guess it’s like describing you as not thrilling enough or not flexible enough?
The pilot also introduced us to Jin-a’s ride-or-die BFF who is almost her wife, Seo Kyung-sun (Jang So-yeon), also a Coffee Bay franchisee. They always drink together, go to noraebang together, steal traffic cones together. LOL. When I grow up I want to have a best friend (with a cute dongsaeng) like Kyung-sun.
I know I’m a bit behind the episodes, but I feel like Seo Joon-hee (Jung Hae-in) has already been smitten with Jin-a ever since! Our hero works at a gaming company just floors below Jin-a’s head office, which means they share the same office building. The show also pretty much established the main OTP friendship bond even before the romance starts.
The way he rescued Jin-a against her persuasive ex-boyfriend had me swooning too! I don’t know if I can finish watching this drama alive!
Watch the scene here.
I love the drama’s soundtracks! It’s as cute as the main couple. Though I was more familiar with the Michael Buble rendition, the drama used another version of the song.😉
I loved how Jin-a may be vulnerable right now, but she absolutely knows how to exact revenge! That lipstick and torn stockings she left at her ex-boyfie’s car was so smooth!
I can watch Son Ye-jin dancing adorably to 2NE1’s “I am the best” all day! Can’t blame this guy for smiling so brightly!
How cute is Joon-hee when he secretly took a pic of Jin-a sleeping? My heart! 😍
