1. Late ‘Boys Over Flowers’ actress Jang Ja-yeon’s sexual abuse case reopened
On June 4, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office announced that a reinvestigation was launched into Jang Ja-yeon’s sexual abuse case. The actress committed suicide in March 2009 at the age of 29 supposedly over her forced sexual relationships with entertainment heads.
2. Ji Chang-wook, Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Joo Won sing national anthem during 63rd Memorial Day
Actors Ji Chang-wook, Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, and Joo Won, who are all currently fulfilling their mandatory military service, sang the South Korean national anthem during the country’s celebration of its 63rd Memorial Day. This event is dedicated to pay tribute to the military veterans who sacrificed their lives during the Korean War and other battles.

3. Viewers disappointed with Why Secretary Kim’s excuse for plagiarism issue
Park Seo-joon and Park Min-young’s new drama Why Secretary Kim is recently swept up in plagiarism rumors after one of its posters showed striking resemblance with a photoshoot from the magazine Glamour (side by side comparison shown above).
However, tvN explained, “The poster in question is not the drama’s main poster. It’s an homage we gave to a reference and is only an online poster. We’ll be more careful next time.“
But viewers seem to be displeased with the network’s response to the issue, with many pointing out that an homage is only applicable if the public can clearly recognize the original work. They also expressed disappointment that the network did not apologize over the controversy.
4. Kim Joon confirms he is married and already has a child
Kim Joon personally revealed through a phone interview with media outlet Ilgan Sports that he is already married to his non-showbiz girlfriend. The wedding ceremony took place in 2015. He also added that he is now a father to one daughter.
Kim Joon is best known for his role as one of the members of F4 in the hit drama Boys Over Flowers. Here’s a photo of him with his young daughter:
5. Lee Yi-kyung, Jung In-sun end relationship
Laughter in Waikiki co-stars Lee Yi-kyung and Jung In-sun have broken up. The two reportedly ended their over one-year-old relationship due to their busier schedules but agreed to remain good colleagues supporting each other.
6. Lee Seung-gi, Suzy to reunite in spy drama Vagabond
Lee Seung-gi (A Korean Odyssey) and Suzy (While You Were Sleeping) are set to partner again in the upcoming SBS spy drama Vagabond five years after Gu Family Book.
Vagabond is looking to premiere at the second half of the year.
7. Highlight’s Lee Gikwang joins Song Ji-hyo, Park Shi-hoo in Lovely Horribly
Highlight’s Lee Gikwang (Circle) is confirmed to appear in the upcoming KBS horror romantic comedy Lovely Horribly. He is set to play the role of Sung Joong, a rookie PD who can see ghosts.
Lovely Horribly stars Song Ji-hyo (My Wife is Having an Affair This Week) and Park Shi-hoo (My Golden Life) in the lead roles, and is set to air in August following Are You Human, Too?
8. Go Soo to possibly return to small screen after two years
BH Entertainment confirmed that Go Soo (The Flower in Prison) has received an offer for the upcoming SBS medical drama Cardiothoracic Surgery (literal translation). It would be his first drama in two years if he confirms.
Cardiothoracic Surgery is slated to air in September.
9. Park Byung-eun cast in SBS’ Dear Judge
Park Byung-eun (Mistress) is confirmed to join the cast of the upcoming SBS legal drama Dear Judge. No further details about his character have been released as of this writing.
Dear Judge is set to premiere in July as the follow-up to The Undateables.
10. Jung Eugene to play Yang Se-jong’s best friend in Thirty But Seventeen
Jung Eugene’s (Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food) next drama assignment will be the upcoming SBS drama Thirty But Seventeen, where she will play Yang Se-jong’s character’s best friend.
Thirty But Seventeen is topbilled by Yang Se-jong (Temperature of Love) and Shin Hye-sun (My Golden Life) with a premiere date set on July 16.
11. Uee courted to star in weekend drama My Beautiful Side
Uee (My Husband Oh Jak-doo) is currently reviewing an offer to lead the upcoming KBS2 weekend drama My Beautiful Side. If she accepts, she will play the role of Kim Do-ran, an English major graduate with a volatile temper but has a strong sense of responsibility.
My Beautiful Side looks to premiere sometime in September.
12. Go Ara offered to lead SBS’ Hatch
Go Ara (Miss Hammurabi) is offered to play the lead role in the upcoming SBS Joseon-era adventure drama Hatch. If she accepts, she will play the role of an enthusiastic damo (undercover female detective) named Yeo-ji, a trilingual who is also good at martial arts and doing investigations.
Hatch will air in September.
13. Yoon Kyun-sang accepts offer as Kim Yoo-jung’s love interest in Clean With Passion For Now
Yoon Kyun-sang (Doubtful Victory) will now join Kim Yoo-jung (Love in the Moonlight) and Song Jae-rim (Our Gap-soon) in the main cast of Clean With Passion For Now.
The drama is looking to premiere in November on JTBC.
14. Go Joon, Choi Kang-hee to unite in one-act KBS drama
KBS cast Go Joon (Misty) and Choi Kang-hee (Queen of Mystery 2) for its upcoming one-act drama A Very Midday Romance, which is scheduled to air in September.
Go Joon is set to play Pil-yong, a team leader at a large company who suddenly got demoted. Meanwhile, Choi Kang-hee will portray Yang-hee, a woman who lives an ‘all work, no play’ life. This one-act drama will focus on nostalgia, romance, and life reassessment.
12. JTBC announces Laughter in Waikiki Season 2 in the works
A source from JTBC revealed on June 8, “The second season of ‘Waikiki’ is currently in the planning stage. However, broadcast details and the cast have not been decided yet.”
