K-Drama Reaction: Lawless Lawyer | Episode 11

“A lie that’s authentic… it must have some truth in it for people to believe it.” ~ Pres. Ahn Oh-joo

THE X DEAL

I knew it! Pres. Ahn (Choi Min-soo) would never made a move that would hurt him in the end. His appearance in court to testify for Bong Sang-pil (Lee Joon-gi) is part of the deal he made with Ha Jae-yi (Seo Ye-ji). It’s clear to me what Jae-yi would get from it—Sang-pil’s freedom. What I’m not very sure about is Pres. Ahn’s gain from it. Yes, appearing in court to “help Sang-pil get acquitted for a crime that he didn’t do” almost made him a saint in Gisung, but I don’t think that’s what Pres. Ahn truly wants.

Now if he did it to regain Judge Cha Moon-sook’s (Lee Hye-young) trust, then I don’t think that he succeeded. Judge Cha is too smart to buy his lie that he only appeared in court to protect her from a threat that is connected to the pictures of a crime they committed 18 years ago. In fact, this move only ignited an all-out war between the two of them. So, did he really gain something from his deal with Jae-yi or did he just dig up his own grave?

BIGGER TARGET

Woah, Judge Cha is really something huh? Now she’s bringing her greed to the national level by aiming to become Korea’s chief justice. Aside from wanting to fulfill her promise to her late father to exceed his achievements, I think that she’s also working toward this target to accumulate more power. That way, no one, not even Pres. Ahn, can go against her.

But Pres. Ahn saw this as an opportunity to pirate people from Judge Cha’s side, and who else would change camps that easy especially if it would benefit them? Of course, it’s none other than Nam Soon-ja (Yum Hye-ran) and her daughter Prosecutor Kang Yeon-hee (Cha Jung-won)! I’m so disappointed with Prosecutor Kang because I was really hoping that she’s different from her mom, but it seems like they’re just the same. Oh well, when did an apple tree bear oranges?

Going back to Judge Cha’s ambition to become chief justice, I don’t think it will be that easy especially after Jae-yi and Sang-pil leaked to the media her controversial photos with Pres. Ahn. We’re going to see in the next episode how she’ll gonna use to her advantage the violent attack on her during her presscon.

LET HER GO

Sang-pil is now fully aware of Mrs. Noh Hyung-joo’s (Baek Joo-hee) true identity, and I’m afraid that our OTP would have to part ways temporarily. This is after Mrs. Noh begged Sang-pil to let Jae-yi go because she would never be safe as long as she’s with him. I’m so torn on this. On one side, I understand where Mrs. Noh is coming from. She’s a mother who just wants to protect her daughter. But on the other side, I don’t want Sang-pil and Jae-yi to break apart because now is the time that they need each other more than ever. They are each other’s strength, and danger would always be there whether or not Jae-yi is with Sang-pil as long as Pres. Ahn and Judge Cha are in the picture.

I know that this is a very difficult situation for Sang-pil. He loves Jae-yi so much, but Mrs. Noh’s plea is something he couldn’t ignore either because it’s a request from the woman who saved his life. What is he gonna do now?
