K-Drama Reaction: The Undateables | Episodes 15-16

The start of a relationship is the sweetest.

The Early Favorite

Kang Hoon-nam (Namgoong Min) isn’t just a normal player. He is a true expert. He knew exactly how to get a woman. And I’m wondering why it doesn’t turn me off. It was probably because Hoon-nam’s feelings were real. It may have started as a bet but he is already attracted to Yoo Jung-eum (Hwang Jung-eum) way before that. The feeling is mutual as it is obvious Jung-eum is attracted to him as well. She wouldn’t be that jealous to Susie if she isn’t right?

My only concern now is the secret we all know will be a huge conflict soon. It started out as a bet. Hoon-nam is risking his relationship with Jung-eum because of that secret. He was right for saying that their relationship is like a glass. One wrong move and it will break.

The Late Starter

I really agree that second leads are late starters. If dating was a race, they are those who wait until its too late to catch up with the frontrunner.

Choi Joon-soo (Choi Tae-joon) know it well. Jung-eum has already been smitten by another man. But that doesn’t mean he’ll stay idle and do nothing. He took the first step and unfriending Jung-eum. He is really trying hard enough to be a man in front of Jung-eum. Joon-soo doesn’t want to stay in the friendzone and he is doing his best to jump out of it.

The Other Contenders

There are so many factors that can affect the fragile relationship between our main characters. There are Susie and Joon-soo then the bet. There are also external factors like Jung-eum’s father and Hoon-nam’s family. But what I’m worried about is the characters’ unhealed wounds. When they started to officially date, they knew they would become vulnerable again. I think both Jung-eum and Hoon-nam haven’t yet deal with their respective pasts.

Maknae’s Episode Verdict

It was one lighthearted and sweet episode. My pessimistic self is whispering that it is just a preliminary happiness before dramagenies pulled the rug under the characters’ feet and make them realize they still can get hurt. For now, though, I’ll savor those sweet kisses and lovable scenes before things get pretty ugly.

Dongsaeng’s Afterthoughts

– Darn, these men really know how to make a woman swoon.
