K-Drama Reaction: The Undateables | Episodes 17-18

It’s time to wake up.

The Bamboo Resident

Kang Hoon-nam (Namgoong Min) found a way to get closer with his girlfriend Yoo Jung-eum (Hwang Jung-eum). He decided to be her new housemate. The downside though is that he also has to live with Jung-eum’s best friend and his rival, Choi Joon-soo (Choi Tae-joon). Their rivalry resulted in some hilarious competition between the two. Hoon-nam is respecting Jung-eum’s decision to stay friends with Joon-soo even after his confession. That earned him points from both me and Jung-eum. He seems to be confident about his relationship with Jung-eum. I’m hoping he is also confident that he’ll win her back again especially after this episode.

The Chrysanthemum Resident

I must admit that Joon-soo’s protectiveness was borderline annoying. I agree with Hoon-nam that he shouldn’t assume where he stood in Jung-eum’s life just because they knew each other for years. But I also understand where Joon-soo is coming from. He wasn’t used to having a rival in Jung-eum’s attention. It’ll be hard for him to adjust.

If I were him, he should just pay attention to other women around him. Susie is quite likable despite her frankness. Although she is also stubborn like Joon-soo, I think she knew the reality of her relationship with Hoon-nam.

The Orchid Resident

Please bear with my rants in this section. Jung-eum finally discovered Hoon-nam’s bet with his cousin Yook Ryong (Jung Moon-sung). Coach Yang (Oh Yoon-ah) couldn’t help it and told her friend out of concern. I understand her but it was quiete irritating that she seems to look at Jung-eum as a stupid girl. She’s the one who needs to wake up from her delusions. She was being treated second best by Jerk Ryong. She needs to fix her life first before minding someone else’s business.

Anyway, I’m actually glad this plot is being addressed already. I don’t want it to be part of the final arc as I’m hoping it’ll be more about the character’s personal hang-ups.

Maknae’s Episode Verdict

I have a mix feeling about this episode. The rivalry plot was seriously entertaining to watch. Those two actors may look serious but they showed their comic side in this episode. But they seem to use the bet to stir up some conflict between our lovers already. I just hope they won’t drag it for too long and move forward to other conflicts already.
