K-Drama Reaction: Lawless Lawyer | Episode 14

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

THE BAIT

Nam Soon-ja (Yum Hye-ran) has now decided to make a deal with Bong Sang-pil (Lee Joon-gi) after Judge Cha Moon-sook (Lee Hye-young) turned her back on her. She handed the sponsor ledger containing the corrupt transactions at the Cha Byung-ho Foundation over to Sang-pil in exchange for his services as her lawyer. This is such a great development for Sang-pil and Ha Jae-yi’s (Seo Ye-ji) revenge plot because Madam Nam is someone who knows A LOT about Judge Cha’s evil deeds, meaning, managing to get her to their side is like sealing the mother of all deals.

And I think that Judge Cha is a bit shaken by Madam Nam’s move seeing that she even went to the Lawless Lawyer law firm just to discourage Sang-pil by saying that he will only lose the case both to her and to the law. I guess it is really her style because I can remember her doing the same thing to Sang-pil’s mom when the latter attempted to bring to court the photos taken by Mrs. Noh Hyung-joo (Baek Joo-hee). Judge Cha also went to see Atty. Choi Jin-ae (Shin Eun-jung) at the same law firm 18 years ago to threaten her to shut her mouth if she wants to live peacefully with her son.

But I think fearlessness runs in the blood because Sang-pil stood firm and continued with the plan to expose all of Judge Cha’s wrongdoings. And what’s the best way to do it per Sang-pil? Strip Judge Cha’s mask in public while she’s wearing her judicial robe! I agree with that.

And to make it happen, Sang-pil requested for Judge Hong to be replaced as the sitting judge on Madam Nam’s case, which the prosecution approved after Sang-pil showed evidence of Judge Hong Woo-seok’s corrupt deeds. I’m also having a hunch that Kwon Man-bae will make a surprise appearance in the next hearing to pay for his betrayal of the Dae-woong Gang. Looks like the future isn’t looking so bright now for Judge Cha!

TARGETING SANG-PIL’S WEAKNESS

Why am I not even surprised when Pres. Ahn used Jae-yi to harm Sang-pil? Maybe because I know too well that Pres. Ahn never played fair and square. And I also didn’t feel worried that he might actually pull the trigger through Sang-pil’s head because I know he still needs him to put himself back to his old glory.

But I think that Sang-pil was right when he said that Pres. Ahn is already a broken container and that no one, including himself, has the power to put the shattered pieces together. I think it’s high time for Pres. Ahn to admit it to himself, and if I were him, I’d gladly grab Sang-pil’s offer, if there’s any, to side with him and fight against Judge Cha. That way he can save himself from further destruction.
