K-Drama Reaction: The Undateables | Episodes 21-22

How to lose guy ala Yoo Jung-eum?

Let’s Break-up

Yoo Jung-eum (Hwang Jung-eum) was serious when she told Kang Hoon-nam (Namgoong Min) they should break-up. It wasn’t just I-need-a-space kind of thing. She knew it was the right thing to do. After all, she had experienced it before. She should have known better now. What she didn’t know though is that Hoon-nam is sincere. Unlike that jerk guy who left her crying at the airport and caused her trauma. Hoon-nam may not have a perfect past but he sure is genuine in what he feels for Jung-eum. So, it is kind of sad to see him make no progress at all with Jung-eum.

The Good Guy

I’m torn between liking and getting annoyed with Choi Joon-soo (Choi Tae-joon). Half of me commends him for being patient and for being a good friend to Jung-eum but half of me wants him to just make a move. Take advantage of the situation and make Jung-eum fall for him. I’m frustrated because he is too nice. This is so typical with second leads.  They hesitate and hesitate until it’s too late. I know being too aggressive could be appalling but I really think a bit of boldness will be positive for Joon-soo.

Unchangeable Outcome

Jung-eum keeps on talking about the unchangeable outcome of staying in a relationship with Hoon-nam. I wonder if she was some kind of a shaman who knew what the future holds. I can’t totally blame her though, she was hurt in the past and she was being cautious. There’s nothing wrong with guarding your heart but she should remember that great things never came from comfort zones. She should see how Hoon-nam is trying hard to show his real feelings. He, too, was scarred by his past but he knew Jung-eum is worth the pain.

Maknae’s Episode Verdict

I’m a pluviophile and that rain scene totally got me. I’ve been cursing Hoon-nam for making the situation like this because of that betting thing but this episode changed the way I looked at him. He has proven he’s real. Hoon-nam is giving her the opportunity to let go of the past and start anew. It is now up to Jung-eum on whether she’ll let her insecurities and fears rule her life or she’ll take the chance and let herself fall in love again.

Dongsaeng’s Afterthoughts
