K-Drama Reaction: Wok of Love | Episodes 33-34

Poong (Junho) is finally the Head Chef in Giant Hotel after winning the cook-off vs Master Wang (Lim Won-hee). It’s funny how fate works for Poong because he won not because of his own lobster recipe, but because of the main ingredient chosen by his competitor – pork belly. It’s funny how Master Wang crumbled on his own while cooking his dish, and he apparently copied Poong’s fire technique during the start of this drama.

The reaction of both Poong and Chil-sung (Jang Hyuk) when the winner was announced made me realize how far they’ve come. From being Poong’s moneylender to landlord to now his hyung, I’m just proud that they won this battle together. It’s just sad that Chil-sung has decided to sell his building along with Hungry Wok.

Sae-woo’s ungrateful parents

For a minute, I was happy that Sae-woo’s Dad is now free. But when I realized he is just like his useless wife, I wished he would just stay back in jail. How dare you oppose Poong for your daughter when you even stayed for two months in jail being helpless? If not for Chil-sung (who has been helping his family even without anyone asking him), this old loathsome man would still be rotting in jail. I thought he would be as loving to other people as he was to Sae-woo.

I can’t believe that Sae-woo’s parents had the guts to stop Seol-ja (Park Ji-young) and Geok-jung (Tae Hang-ho) from working at Giant Hotel. And take note, Madame Jin’s (Lee Mi-sook) initial reaction was, “How am I going to eat?!” Lol, of course you eat with your mouth. 😝 My gosh, you even served as a dishwasher when you were in dire need of cash, why don’t you learn how to cook on your own now! Or you can easily hire a new housekeeper! You’re always out there boasting off your elite status to Poong anyway. It would be easy to look for replacement. I hope Seol-ja and Geok-jung would just follow what their heart wants, leave that ungrateful household, and work at the hotel’s kitchen.

Sae-woo’s new career

I’m happy that Sae-woo found her passion with cooking. I haven’t really seen her to be good in anything except when she rode Buster. As much as I’d like to see more Buster and Sae-woo bonding scenes, I think it’s too late to work on her equestrian background this point in the story. So I welcome this new goal in her to learn and worn her way up in the kitchen. It’s just so hard to watch Sam-seon sunbae (Oh Eui-sik) ordering her around. But that’s the problem with Sae-woo ever since – she had no initiative and needs to be spoon fed every time. I’d like to see her personality develop and not just be the lovey dovey, cheerful heroine. It’s tiring to watch sometimes.

Chil-sung brings the “melo” in Greasy Melo

I give credit to fellow drama (and Jang Hyuk) lover Stuck on Hyuk for this catchphrase. It’s just so true… I’ve said this in my past reactions but I have to repeat it again. Chil-sung has been helping every single one of the people in this dramaverse, yet he is alone during his saddest moments. His struggle to open his mom’s hospital door was just too painful to watch. Jang Hyuk is an A-list actor for a reason! I almost lost it when he asked Maeng-dal if he was being abandoned again in his age! 😦
