You should be happy first before trying to make another person happy.
A Heart Thief
Kang Hoon-nam (Namgoong Min) has to prove himself to Yoo Jung-eum’s (Hwang Jung-eum) father. The sincerity he showed to Jung-eum has also won the caring father’s heart. His genuine intentions with Jung-eum was apparent. He wouldn’t be that patient and understanding if he doesn’t love Jung-eum, right?
Anyhow, I enjoyed watching him following Jung-eum’s aboji around. He was a like loyal puppy waiting to follow his master’s order. Thank goodness hee was rewarded in the end and finally got his blessing.
Meeting The Mother
I think Jung-eum meeting Hoon-nam’s stepmother was one of my favorite scenes in this series. The way they played with K-drama cliches was so hilarious. But what I really love about it is how Hoon-nam’s mother welcomed Jung-eum. She put up with everything that comes with marrying a womanizer including raising his mistress’ son. She loved Hoon-nam like her own son and was really happy to see him finally fall in love. There was some foreshadowing though about her decision to leave but I think she deserves getting some freedom after years of leading their family.
Hoon-nam’s Wounds
With Jung-eum’s push, Hoon-nam tried to open up with his father. He has been avoiding his father for years but it only took one night of talking over soju to solve their issues. I know their relationship is still not as strong as Jung-eum and her father but it is a good start. He is slowly putting down the wall he built around himself. He is now letting people in. And it was all because of Jung-eum.
Maknae’s Episode Verdict
This series has some highs and lows but this episode is definitely on the upper side of things. They don’t deviate away from the main plot and focus on our main characters’ healing. Both have been scarred by their past and they have found comfort with each other. This is the kind of story I’ve been looking forward to seeing in this series. It seems the series will make-up for the lows in the last few episodes.
Dongsaeng’s Afterthoughts
– According to Jung-eum, opposites are compatible!
– Where can I find someone like Hoon-nam?
– This sentence melts my cynical heart.
