1. Song Joong-ki, Kim Ji-won, Jang Dong-gun, Kim Ok-bin complete star-studded cast of Asadal Chronicle
tvN’s highly-anticipated fantasy sageuk Asadal Chronicle is currently in the final stages of casting Song Joong-ki (Descendants of the Sun), Kim Ji-won (Fight My Way), Jang Dong-gun (Suits), and Kim Ok-bin (Children of a Lesser God) for its main cast. PD Kim Won-seok (Misaeng, Signal, and My Ajusshi) will take on the drama’s direction while the script will be written by Kim Young-hyun (Tree With Deep Roots, Six Flying Dragons, and Queen Seon-deok).
2. Kim Woo-bin’s agency gives updates on his health condition
After the celebration of Kim Woo-bin’s 30th birthday, his agency SidusHQ stated that the actor had completed his cancer treatment, and there are no plans for his return to acting yet. Kim Woo-bin’s health has improved and he has start exercising again, though it will take a long time for his full recovery.
3. Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul Ho returns for a exciting new season
KBS recently confirmed their plans to air a second season of the drama adaptation od the webtoon Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul Ho in early 2019. The drama’s lead actor Park Shin-yang will reprise his role as the star prosecutor who lost everything after curbing corruption and rebuilt his life as a small-time lawyer helping those who cannot help themselves. The original 2016 ensemble comprised of Kang So-ra, Ryu Soo-young, and Park Sol-mi.
4. Jang Geun-seuk enters military service as a public worker
On July 16, Jang Geun-seuk entered the Military Manpower Association’s Social Service Training Center in Boeun County, North Chungcheong Province for his basic public service training. After five days, he will start working as a public service worker. The actor was diagnosed to have bipolar disorder when he underwent the physical examination from the Military Manpower Administration. He is set to be discharged from the military on July 15, 2020.
5. B1A4’s Jinyoung and Baro find their new homes in separate agencies
Following reports that B1A4 members Jinyoung and Baro left WM Entertainment on June 30 after their contract expiration, the two idol-turned-actors have chosen their respective new agencies. LINK8 Entertainment revealed that Jinyoung has signed an exclusive contract with their company, while HODU&U Entertainment announced that Baro had officially joined their agency.
6. Ryu Hwa-young joins cast of The Beauty Inside
Ryu Hwa-young (Mad Dog) returns to dramaland as Seo Hyun-jin’s rival in the upcoming drama adaptation of The Beauty Inside.
7. Lee Sang-yeob cast as ship captain in Top Star Yoo Baek
Lee Sang-yeob (While You Were Sleeping) has been confirmed as one of the main leads in tvN’s new drama Top Star Yoo Baek (working title). He is set to portray the role of Choi Ma-dol, a charismatic young captain known for being the “Jack Sparrow of ships.” Earlier reports revealed Kim Ji-suk (20th Century Boy and Girl) and Jeon So-min (Cross) were courted to join the cast. The drama is scheduled to air in November.
8. Veteran singer/actor Kim Chang-wan leaves Four men due to contract issues
Issues surrounding the production of the drama Four Men persists. On July 19, Kim Chang-wan had reportedly cancelled his contract due to broken trust with the production company. Four Men made headlines this month due to reports of lack of payment for its artists, staff and crew which resulted to the postponement of filming.
9. Son Seok-gu, Lee El confirmed to Cha Tae-hyun and Bae Doona in KBS’s upcoming drama The Best Divorce.
The drama is a remake of 2013 Japanese series Matrimonial Chaos, and will follow Lovely Horribly in October.
10. Hwang Bo-ra confirmed to star in Vagabond
Hwang Bo-ra (Why Secretary Kim) will appear as a demanding employee of the National Intelligence Service in the big-budgeted action drama Vagabond. The dramas lead stars were earlier confirmed as Lee Seung-gi (Hwayugi) and Bae Suzy (While You Were Sleeping).
11. Yeom Jung-ah considers small screen return via Princess Maker
Yeom Jung-ah (Mirror of the Witch) is reportedly in talks to star in the upcoming jtbc drama Princess Maker. If she signs on, this will reunite her with her Mirror of the Witch PD Jo Hyun-tak.
