In Spotlight: Song Kang Filmography

Born on April 23, 1994, Song Kang is already making a name for himself not just in South Korea, but also internationally. He is slowly becoming a household name after appearing in two Netflix-produced hit dramas. Song Kang officially debuted under Namoo Actors in 2017, and now, he is currently juggling acting and being a film student as Konkuk University.

His acting portfolio started with the four-episode mini-series Hello Spring in 2015, and his stardom quickly escalated since then. Aside from his acting projects, he also joined the SBS variety show Village Survival, the Eight as a regular cast for two seasons. In 2018, he was nominated for the Male Rookie Award at the 12th SBS Entertainment Awards.

Aside from being a wanderlust, he also shared in an interview with Cosmopolitan Korea that he prefers books over movies or dramas as it stimulates his imagination and helps him become more expressive as an actor.

He may still have a long way to go, but Song Kang is definitely one of the rising rookies in this new generation of Korean actors. Let’s check out his filmography in this edition of In Spotlight:

The Liar and His Lover (tvN / 2017) – Baek Jin-woo

He made his small screen debut in the 2017 tvN drama The Liar and His Lover as Baek Jin-woo, Joy’s childhood friend and the guitarist of the band Mush & Co.

Man Who Sets the Table (MBC / 2017-2018) – Kim Woo-joo

He had a supporting role in the MBC drama Man Who Sets The Table wherein he appeared as On Joo-wan’s step brother Woo-joo.

Beautiful Vampire (2018)

His big screen debut was through the 2018 movie Beautiful Vampire. He was cast as a landlord’s son whose natural scent reawakens a vampire’s thirst for blood after 500 years.

Touch Your Heart (tvN / 2019) – motorcycle delivery man (Episode 13)

He made a fun cameo in Episode 13 of the hit tvN drama Touch Your Heart as a delivery man!

Love Alarm (Netflix / 2019) – Hwang Sun-oh

He rose to international fame through the Netflix adaptation of the webtoon Love Alarm as Hwang Sun-oh, a prickly high school student who gets entangled in a love triangle with his perfect best friend after falling for the same girl. However, things got more complicated with the existence of a phone app that lets you know if someone in a ten-meter range has a crush on you.

When the Devil Calls Your Name (tvN / 2019) – Luka Aleksević

He joined the cast of another tvN drama When the Devil Calls Your Name as the rookie assistant of Jung Kyung-ho’s character.

Sweet Home (Netflix / 2020) – Cha Hyun-su

He was tagged as the “son of Netflix” after starring in two consecutive hit dramas in the global streaming platform. In Sweet Home, he was cast as Cha Hyun-soo, a suicidal high school orphan who gets caught in the middle of an apocalypse and later on gains supernatural powers.

Love Alarm Season 2 (Netflix / 2021) – Hwang Sun-oh

In 2021, he returned to the Netflix hit Love Alarm Season 2. Set four years after the creation of the mobile app Joalarm, Song Kang’s character Sun-oh returns to Kim So-hyun’s life to pursue her once more.

Navillera (tvN / 2021) – Lee Chae-rok

He returns to tvN in the much anticipated adaptation of the popular webtoon of the same name, Navillera. He transforms into a ballerino who teaches a much older man the art of ballet.
