Park Hyung-sik (Suits), Han Hyo-joo (W: Two Worlds Apart) are now both set to star in the new tvN apocalyptic thriller “Happiness” (literal title). Veteran character actor Joo Woo-jin (Mr. Sunshine) has also been confirmed to join the project.
Happiness is a post-apocalyptic thriller that delves into the lives of citizens when protocols in dealing with infectious diseases have already been set in place. The city’s newly-built residential apartment is divided through social standings – with different floor levels causing tension and discrimination among tenants. And as a new type of infectious disease breaks out, the high-rise building has been sealed off and residents gear up for survival.
Park Hyung-sik is cast for the role of Jung Yi-hyun, a violent crimes detective who used to be a baseball pitcher but gave up the sport after suffering from a bad knee injury. He is known to be a man of intelligence and principles, and always prioritizes the common good even though it costs personal sacrifices. He has long been in love with his high school friend Yoon Sae-bom.
Han Hyo-joo plays the female lead Yoon Sae-bom, a tactical agent in the Seoul Police Special Operations Unit. She is described to be decisive in her judgments and quick-witted in critical situations. She recently moves into the newly-built apartment.
Jo Woo-jin takes on the role of commander Han Tae-suk of the Armed Forces Medical Command. He previously worked as an intelligence officer in the military and gained a degree in pharmacy after his discharge. He now works in determining cause of the infectious disease and stopping it from further spreading.
Happiness is the much-awaited drama comeback of both Park Hyung-sik and Han Hyo-joo. This will be Hyung-sik’s first acting project after his military discharge. On the other hand, Han Hyo-joo has been appearing only in movies since her 2016 hit drama W: Two Worlds Apart.
The drama is also a reunion project of producing director (PD) Ahn Gil-ho (Record of Youth, Memories of the Alhambra, Forest of Secrets) and writer Han Sang-woon (The Good Wife), who worked on together in the hit drama Watcher.
It is set to start filming this month and aims to air towards the end of the year.
