Korean remake of UK series “Uncle” reveals cast

Oh Jung-se (It’s Okay to Not Be Okay), Jeon Hye-jin (Stranger 2), Park Sun-young (The World of the Married), Lee Sang-woo (Lovestruck in the City), and Hwang Woo-seul-hye (Crash Landing on You) have all been confirmed to join the TV Chosun adaptation of “Uncle.”

The drama is a remake of the UK television series “Uncle” that aired on Channel 4 in 2012 and BBC One from 2014 to 2017 starring Nick Helm and Elliot Speller-Gillott.

Oh Jung-se leads the drama as Wang Joon-hyeok, a musician who has hit rock bottom in life. He is estranged with his older sister Wang Joon-hee (to be played by Jeon Hye-jin). His life will change significantly as he begins to look after his nephew.

Jeon Hye-jin will play Joon-hyeok’s older sister Joon-hee who divorced her husband of 12 years after suffering domestic abuse. She now lives in a cheap apartment and fights with her ex-husband’s family for the custody of her son.

Park Sun-young takes on the role of Park Hey-ryeong, the president of the mother’s community at the high-end apartment complex Royal State. Lee Sang-woo is playing the character of Joo Kyeong-il, a charming resident of Royal State who is raising his daughter alone after his wife passed away. Lastly, Hwang Woo-seul-hye will appear as Kim Yoo-ra, another member of the mothers’ community led by Hey-ryeong.

The drama will be helmed by director Ji Yeong-su (Room No. 9, High End Crush) and screenwriter Park Ji-sook (My Blooming Days). It will premiere in the second half of 2021.
