Lee Jun-ho, Lee Se-young Confirmed For New Historical Drama

2PM’s Lee Jun-ho (Confession) and Lee Se-young (Kairos) are both confirmed to star in the upcoming MBC historical melodrama “The Red Sleeve Cuff” (literal translation).

Set in the 18th century, the sageuk will feature the romance between King Jeongjo and his royal concubine Uibin Sung as recorded by the imperial court. It is also based on a novel of the same name written by Kang Mi-kang.

Lee Jun-ho will take the role of Yi San, who is a direct descendant and eldest grandson of the King. Even though he exerts effort in becoming a wise king, his father’s death deeply traumatized him. He will soon rise into the monarch as King Jeonjo of Joseon. He realizes his romantic side after meeting the court lady Seong Deok-im and this triggers his internal conflict of choosing between becoming a benevolent leader of the nation or a passionate man in love.

Lee Se-young will portray as the ambitious and independent court lady Seong Deok-im, who wants to independently make decisions about her life rather than be one of the King’s many women. While living in the palace, she still seeks the little things that make her happy. Eventually, she meets Yi San and will become the royal noble consort Ui of the Seong clan.

The Red Sleeve Cuff will be Lee Jun-ho’s first acting project after being discharged from the military. Meanwhile, actress Park Hye-soo (Dear M) was first offered the lead female role, but declined.

The drama will be helmed by director Jung Ji-in (Radiant Office, Hold Me Tight) while the script will be written by Jung Hae-ri (Ruler: Master of the Mask).
