2PM’s Ok Taecyeon (Vincenzo) and Kim Hye-yoon (Extraordinary You, Snowdrop) have both been confirmed to star in tvN’s new historical drama “The Secret Royal Inspector and Jo-yi” (literal title).
The history comedy drama revolves around an indolent secret royal inspector and a reckless divorced woman in their quest to uncover the corruption in government in the Joseon period.
Ok Taecyeon leads the drama as secret royal inspector Ra Yi-eon, a young nobleman who wishes to open his own dumpling restaurant outside of the capital. But because of social expectations, he takes the state examination and passes it with flying colors. He secures a post in the Office of Special Advisors and eventually receives confidential orders to carry out investigations as a secret royal inspector. Despite his admirable achievements, he doesn’t have a career ambition and just performs what’s expected of him at work. He takes advantage of lunch breaks and leaves work right on the dot. He also likes to lounge at home while cooking his favorite dumplings.
Kim Hye-yoon will portray the role of Kim Jo-yi, a woman who seeks divorce from her husband of three years despite the social stigma that this holds during the Joseon era. Her husband is described as a gambling addict and mama’s boy. Her life as a divorced woman will change after meeting Ra Yi-eon.
The Secret Royal Inspector and Jo-yi will be helmed by director Yoo Jong-sun (Designated Survivor: 60 Days, What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim) and the script will be written by Lee Jae-yoon (The Undateables).
The drama aims to air in the second half of 2021.
