K-Lookbook: Iconic K-drama Styling You Can Wear as Halloween Costumes

Halloween is just around the corner. Even though most of us will probably celebrate it via online parties, it’s not a reason to be lazy about your costume.

Gone are the days that Halloween costumes should look horrifyingly scary. These days you just need to personate anyone you like. Most of the time it’s a movie or TV character. And if you love K-dramas, there are tons of iconic looks you can easily recreate.

The Tracksuits

The top-of-mind K-drama-inspired costume this year would probably be the green tracksuit and pink jumpsuit from Squid Game. Everything in that global hit series became so iconic that even non-Kdrama fans would recognize it. But even before Squid Game, tracksuits has been a staple in K-drama. So if you want another option, you and your friends could wear the red tracksuit from The Uncanny Counter. Or if you really want to stand out, then Hyun Bin got your back. His Secret Garden blue sequined jacket can literally make you shine.

Throwback Uniform

Another basic in Halloween costumes are uniforms of all kinds. Our pick? School uniforms. There is an overabundance of that in K-dramaland. The most iconic of them, however, is Ji Sung’s pink uniform from a scene in Kill Me, Heal Me. Match it with a huge ribbon headband, and voila, you have a cutesy costume that is surely fun to wear. An alternative school uniform inspo is the manhwa-like uniforms found in Extraordinary You.

  • Soo-yeon’s clothespin from (I Miss You)
  • Ji Eun-tak’s red scarf (Goblin) – even if it’s not the same material, the point of her look here is the bright red color
  • Grim Reaper’s black hat (Goblin) – even if it’s not as mystical as his grim reaper hat, any black wide brim hat coupled with a black suit would do the trick
  • Gu Hae-won’s green coat (Reflection of You) – nail her look with a worn-out green coat, curly hair, and very minimal coral make-up
  • The Ahjumma Look ala Ongsan Ladies from When The Camellia Blooms – bring out those grandma floral pants or printed vest you’d been hiding for years!

Couple Looks

Halloween is for everyone and those in relationships do love to celebrate this as well. Their usual inspo are iconic duos with really elaborate costumes. But since this list is about looks you can easily recreate at your home or easy to wear for that online party you’ve been invited, I picked some couple looks that is simple but is still fun to role play. You and your special someone can don these very doable couple looks.

  • Denim Jackets ala Winter Garden couple in Hospital Playlist (Or probably their blue scrub suit of Yulje! If you purchased that pajama merch from the series, it’s time for you to wear it and play pretend doctors.)
  • Frog headbands ala Yumi and Woong in Yumi’s Cells
  • Devil and Angel headbands ala Kim Bok-joo and Jung Joon-young in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo

Bonus costume inspo:

If you’re so extra, here’s an idea for you. Curl your hair ala Gu Jun-pyo from Boys Over Flowers, wear a furry black jacket, and play T-Max’s Paradise in your background while introducing yourself at parties. This nostalgic look will surely bring out a lot of laughs and early K-drama memories.
