Woo Do-hwan (The King: Eternal Monarch) and WJSN’s Bona (Twenty Five: Twenty One) are both in talks to star as the leads of the upcoming drama “Joseon Lawyer” (literal title).
“Joseon Lawyer,” based on a webtoon of the same name, is a multi-genre fusion sageuk that follows the life of a vicious lawyer Kang Han Soo, who files lawsuits that are pre-planned and exploits the emotions of wronged victims, unintentionally becoming revered as a hero and a problem solver among the common people. He develops into a genuinely just lawyer in the end.
The Gyeongguk Daejeon (code of law from the late Goryeo and early Joseon Dynasties) serves as a motif in “Joseon Lawyer,” yet the plot is entirely fictional. As they take down those with absolute authority and perfect rules that limit the power that is abused, the main characters will help the regular people who are treated unfairly because they don’t know about the law or how to read.
Woo Do Hwan has been cast as Kang Han-soo, the greatest lawyer in Hanyang (modern-day Seoul). Kang Han-soo is educated and has exceptional acting skills that can fool crowds, making him the envy of many. Kang Han-soo seeks vengeance, but he eventually becomes the people’s voice and a hero.
Bona is in negotiations to play Lee Yeon-joo, Kang Han-soo’s client. At first look, Lee Yeon Joo appears to be a commoner who has been treated unfairly, yet she is a figure with many secrets. She meets Kang Han-soo while concealing her true feelings in order to exact her revenge, but she becomes perplexed as her emotions become increasingly convoluted.
