In Spotlight: YoonA Filmography

Known as the nation’s center, nation’s visual, and many other descriptions that describe her classic beauty, Yoona is not just all face. She began her acting career in 2007, the same year she debuted with Girls Generation. An all-around performer, she always indulges her fans with her diverse acting portfolio.

Ahjummamshies, let’s take a look at one of South Korea’s top idol-actresses, our featured K-superstar for this version of In Spotlight, Im Yoona!

Two Outs in the Ninth Inning (MBC / 2007) – Shin Joo-young

She began her acting career in 2007 with a supporting role in MBC’s rom-com series, Two Outs in the Ninth Inning. She played Shin Ju-young, a third-year high school student who writes novels online.

Unstoppable Marriage (KBS / 2007) – Cameo, Episode 64

She made a cameo alongside fellow Girls Generation members in KBS sitcom Unstoppable Marriage.

Park Jung-geum, Heavenly Beauty (MBC / 2008) – Cameo, Episodes 19, 20, 23

She had multiple guest appearances in the weekend drama Park Jung-geum, Heavenly Beauty. The drama was topbilled by veteran actress Bae Jong-ok, who formed a strong bond with the Yoona since then.

You Are My Destiny (KBS / 2008-2009) – Jang Sae-byuk

She landed her first leading role in the series You Are My Destiny. She considered this a turning point in her career. Her portrayal as Jang Sae-byuk in the 2008 KBS Drama gave her the Best New Actress trophy at the 45th Baeksang Arts Awards.

Cinderella Man (MBC / 2009) – Seo Yu-jin

In 2009, she starred opposite Kwon Sang-woo in the MBC romance drama Cinderella Man. She played the character Seo Yoo-jin, an aspiring designer who graduated from a famous Paris fashion design school.

Love Rain (KBS2 / 2012) – Kim Yoon-hee (in the 1970s) / Jung Ha-na (Yoon-Hee’s daughter in 2012)

In 2012, she lead the KBS melodrama Love Rain alongside Jang Keun Suk. Here, she played two characters: Yun-hee in the 1970s timeline and Ha-na in the present timeline.

Prime Minister & I (KBS2 / 2013-2014) – Reporter Nam Da-jung

In 2013, she starred in the KBS drama, Prime Minister And I as a young reporter who entered into a contract marriage with the current prime minister, who is also a single father.

My First Time (OnStyle / 2015) – Im Yoo-Jin (Cameo, Episode 1)

In support of her SM Entertainment label mate SHINee’s Minho, she appeared in the premiere of the OnStyle drama My First Time (Korean title: Because It’s the First Time).

God of War, Zhao Yun (2015) – Xiahou Qingyi / Ma Yurou

For her first Chinese project, the wuxia drama God of War, Zhao Yun, she transformed into the playful yet fierce lead character, Xiahou Qing Yi. 

The K2 (tvN / 2016) – Go Anna

One of her most iconic roles was Go Anna, the reclusive daughter of a presidential candidate, in the tvN action hit The K2. This drama was also her comeback to the small screen after three years.

Confidential Assignment (2017) – Park Min-young

She made her film debut in the 2017 action film, Confidential Assignment. She worked alongside Hyun Bin and played the role of Park Min-young, the sister-in-law of Yoo Hae-jin’s character.

The King in Love (MBC / 2017) – Eun San / So-hwa

She caught the hearts of both the Crown Prince and his best friend in the hit historical drama The King in Love.

Exit (2019) – Jung Ui-Joo

In 2019, she starred alongside Cho Jung-seok in the movie Exit. The disaster action became one of the highest-grossing films in South Korea.

Hush (JTBC / 2020-2021) – Lee Ji-soo

She played as a reporter once again in the 2020-2021 JTBC newsroom drama Hush.

Miracle: Letters to the President (2021) – Song Ra-hee

In 2021, she starred in the romantic drama film Miracle: Letters to the President. She played the role of Song Ra-hee, the girlfriend of math genius Joon-gyeong (played by Park Jeong-min).

A Year-End Medley (2021) – Soo-yeon

She gets entangled with a problematic hotel guest portrayed by Kang Ha-neul during the New Year holidays in the omnibus-format feel-good romance film A Year-End Medley.

Big Mouth (MBC / 2022) – Go Mi-ho

She is set to appear in MBC’s Big Mouth as Go Mi-ho, a resourceful nurse and devoted wife who will do everything to clear the name of her incarcerated husband, Lee Jong-suk!
