After more than three decades, Chungmuro actor Song Kang-ho will finally star in his first television series. He will be joined by actors Byun Yo-han, Lee Kyu-hyung, and Seo Hyun-woo.
Set in the early 1960s, the upcoming drama Uncle Sam-sik (literal title) will follow the friendship between two men and how they will survive the turbulent years in Korea.
The award-winning movie actor will take on the titular role while Byun Yo-han (Mr. Sunshine) will play the role of the second main character Kim San, a top elite student from the Korea Military Academy. After getting the Albright scholarship and economics degree in the United States, Kim San returns to Korea with the dream of changing his homeland to an industrial economy. While in despair because of the reality in his home country, he will meet Uncle Sam-sik who shares his vision with him and tells him they can achieve that vision together.
Meanwhile, Lee Kyu-hyung (May It Please The Court) will play the role of Kang Sung Min, a presidential candidate whose relationship with Sam-sik soured after he abandoned Sam-sik once he reached his goal. Seo Hyun-woo (Call My Agent) will take on the role of elite army soldier Jeong Han-min who trained alongside Kim San as his fellow Albright scholar.
The 10-episode series is set to be released sometime in 2023.
