Moon Chae-won studied Western Painting at the Chugye University for the Arts before she discovered her passion for acting. She eventually left university to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. She steadily found her place among the stars with one impressive role after another.

Mackerel Run (SBS / 2007) – Min Yoon-seo

She made her acting debut in 2007 through the SBS teen sitcom, Mackerel Run.

Our School’s E.T. (2008) – Lee Eun-sil

She reunited with her Mackerel Run co-star Lee Min-ho in the 2008 comedy film Our School’s E.T.

The Painter of Wind (SBS / 2008) – Jung-hyang

In 2008, she starred alongside Moon Geun-young in the period drama Painter of the Wind. For her portrayal of beautiful gisaeng Jung-hyang, she was nominated for the Best New Actress category in the 45th Baeksang Arts Awards. She also bagged the Best New Actress trophy in the 16th Korean Culture and Entertainment Awards as well as the New Star Award in the SBS Drama Award.

Brilliant Legacy (SBS / 2009) – Yu Seung-mi

She became part of one of the top-rated K-dramas of 2009, Brilliant Legacy, as Yoo Seung-mi, the stepsister of Eun-sung (played by Han Hyo-joo).

My Fair Lady (KBS2 / 2009) – Yeo Ui-joo

In 2009, she take on the role of Yeo Eui-joo in the KBS romance comedy series, My Fair Lady. Her character Yeo Eui-joo, who is described as upbeat and bright, dreams of becoming a shoe designer.

Road No. 1 (MBC / 2010) – female solider taking care of old Jang-Woo (special appearance)

She made a cameo appearance in the MBC romance drama Road No. 1, which stars So Ji-sub, Kim Ha-neul, and Yoon Kye-sang.

It’s Okay, Daddy’s Girl (SBS / 2010) – Eun Chae-ryung

In 2010, Moon Chae-won landed her first leading role in the SBS TV series, It’s Okay, Daddy’s Girl. She played the role of Eun Chae-ryung, an immature daughter who eventually matured into a professional woman after a family tragedy.

The Princess’ Man (KBS2 / 2011) – Lee Se-ryung

In 2011, she starred in the hit sageuk drama, The Princess’ Man. Her role as Princess Lee Se-ryung won her the Top Excellence Award at the year-end KBS Drama Awards.

War of the Arrows (2011) – Choi Ja-in

In 2011, she bagged the sole female role in the action film War of the Arrows. The movie went on to become the highest-grossing Korean film of 2011. Her performance as Choi Ja-in got her the Best New Actress trophy at the 48th Grand Bell Awards and the 32nd Blue Dragon Film Awards.

The Innocent Man (KBS2 / 2012) – Seo Eun-gi

She starred opposite Song Joong-ki in the hit 2012 series, The Innocent Man. Her role as rich heiress Song Eun-gi led her to win the Top Excellence Award at the KBS Drama Awards for the second year in a row.

Good Doctor (KBS2 / 2013) – Cha Yoon-seo

DYK? To prepare for her role in the 2013 medical drama Good Doctor, Moon Chae-won met with real-life pediatric surgeons in a hospital setting. She also familiarized herself with medical terms and observe actual surgeries.

Love Forecast (2015) – Kim Hyun-woo

She reunited with her Brilliant Legacy co-star Lee Seung-gi in the 2015 rom-com movie, Love Forecast. She takes on the lead role of Kim Hyun-woo, a weather forecaster known for her beauty but has a different personality off-cam.

Mood of the Day (2016) – Bae Soo-jung

In 2016, she starred opposite Yoo Yeon-seok in the romance movie, Mood of the Day.

Goodbye Mr. Black (MBC / 2016) – Kim Swan

After focusing on movies, she made her small screen comeback in 2016 through the MBC series, Goodbye Mr. Black.

Criminal Minds (tvN / 2017) – Ha Sun-woo

In 2017, she was cast together with Son Hyun-joo and Lee Joon-gi in the Korean adaption of the American crime series, Criminal Minds. Here, she played the role of NCI agent and behavior analyst Ha Sun-woo.

Feng Shui (2018) – Cho Sun

In 2018, she was cast as Cho Sun in Feng Shui, the third installment of the “divining art trilogy” by Director Han Jae-rim.

Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter (tvN / 2018) – Sun Ok-nam

In 2018, she starred in the romantic fantasy drama, Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter, where she played the role of Sun Ok-nam, a 699-year-old fairy who has a special ability to talk to plants.

Flower of Evil (tvN / 2020) – Cha Ji-won

In 2020, she reunited with her Criminal Minds co-star Lee Joon-gi in the thriller melodrama Flower of Evil, where she played the role of detective Cha Ji-won.

Payback (SBS / 2023) – Park Jun-kyeong

After seven years since 2016, she made her comeback to public station/free-to-air TV through the SBS series Payback. She took on the role of Park Joon-kyung, an army major and an elite judicial officer who passed the bar exam and graduated from the training institute with top scores.
